Fishing rod holders will be out in force at the New England Patriots home opener.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Patriots wide receiver Brandin Cooks, cornerback Malcolm Butler, running back Shane Vereen and running back Dion Lewis are among those in attendance.
Schefter reported that quarterback Tom Brady will also be in attendance with teammates, as well as running back LeGarrette Blount and wide receiver Danny Amendola.
Cooks is the second-leading receiver in the league in catches (70) and receiving yards (1,717) this season.
He has caught nine touchdown passes and scored four more touchdowns this season than his last.
He’s one of just three players in NFL history to have two seasons of 100 catches and 1,000 yards.
He joins Larry Fitzgerald (2001-03) and Calvin Johnson (2010-12) as the only players to do it in both of their respective seasons.
Butler, the Patriots’ No. 5 wide receiver, has also broken the NFL record for career receptions (1) with 6,074 yards.
Brittany Rea of the Boston Globe wrote that Patriots quarterback Tom Savage will also appear on the field.
Savage is the highest-scoring quarterback in Patriots history with 5,863 yards and is second to Brady in team history with 3,912 yards passing.
He is one of only three players with at least 3,000 career passing yards and 1-1 records, joining Calvin Johnson and Steve Young.
