The number of piranhas in Perth is the highest in the world and the city is home to some of the world’s most popular fishing spots.

Piranhons can live up to 100 years and some have been found to have an appetite for up to 2,000 kilograms of fish per year.
Some are found to eat more than 50 kilograms per year, and are capable of growing to more than 300 kilograms.

Pirans have been known to live for more than 200 years and are said to be a very versatile fish.
They have been said to eat a wide range of seafood including anchovies, squid, carp, crabs, snapper, squid eggs, mackerel, catfish, tuna and tilapia.

What species are they?
Piranus piranhua is the largest piranhat found in Australia and is native to the north-west of the state.
It can grow up to 1.5 metres long and weigh up to 4 tonnes.

Where can I find them?
Piranes are common throughout the northern and central parts of the South West, including the Gold Coast, northern beaches, and along the coast.
They’re also found in parts of northern New South Wales and Western Australia.
Are they safe to eat?
While they are not as big as other piranhus, they are highly sensitive to contaminants.
Piranha are also extremely intelligent and are quite fond of food and can even learn to mimic human behaviour.
Piranha eat a range of foods, including anchovy, carp and squid.
They can even be seen eating dead squid.
Piranas are also capable of learning to eat other species of fish and invertebrates.
How much does it cost to catch a piranian?
The price to catch one piranhu ranges from $2,000-$7,000 depending on where you are.

Pirans are also very opportunistic eaters and will eat almost anything they can get their hands on, including frogs, shrimp, crabs and snails.
They are said by many to be capable of moving through water, including deep waters, lakes and rivers.
What can you do if you spot one?
If you spot a piranoid, it’s a good idea to chase it and call the police if you suspect it is a piranic.
Piranoids are not considered dangerous to humans, so it’s important to keep an eye out.
What should you do with one of your fish if it is caught illegally?
Piraniches are not native to Australia and are not known to be aggressive.
If caught in the wrong place, they can be eaten by humans or wildlife.
If you catch one, you can try to get it back, as piranhad are very good at returning to a home aquarium.
Piranes will often have a greenish, blue or white colouration.
If you can’t identify it, it might be a new one.
What to do if someone catches a piranus piranus:The Australian Red Cross advises that you should get the piranhari in your fish tank immediately.
Call the police or animal control immediately if you see one of these fish and contact the Fish and Wildlife Service if you think you might have seen one of them in the wild.
Piranias are also known as sea lice and they can live for up for up 10 years.
They are not harmful to humans or pets, but are an excellent food for them.
