By Jeff Fisher, Associated Press WriterWASHINGTON (AP) Mike Fisher, founder of the popular fish-netting business Mike Fisher & Fishers, will donate $10 million to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in the first quarter of 2018, the company said Friday.

Fisher said in a statement the gift will fund the conservation efforts of the Ulysses S. Grant National Fish and Game Refuge in Oregon and support fisheries management in Southeast Alaska.

Fishers said in the statement that the gift to the refuge is in recognition of its important work in restoring fish stocks and protecting critical habitat.

Fishing has long been a national tradition.

The U.K.-based company was founded in 1982, when Fishers’ father, the late John Fisher, had the idea of making a fish- netting company and selling it to a New York-based company.

He later purchased the company from his father and began expanding it to Oregon, Alaska and Hawaii.
